Rural Landscape strategy making – between public policy, local agents and community

 In this paper we present recent experiences gained in four projects included in a Danish programme carried out to develop models for dialogued based landscape planning. The four projects were owned and mainly financed by municipalities and we, the authors of the paper, participated as action researchers. Although the four projects varied in scope and scale, strategic and experimental dimensions were included in each of them and a number of common workshops and seminars were organized for participants across the four processes to facilitate a common learning dimension of the programme.  Starting with the initial inspirations from planning theory and spatial strategy making we summarize main inputs and outcomes of the processes and conclude with reflections on the perspectives of a landscape strategy making approach to rural development and community driven landscape planning with reference to the European Landscape Convention.
